BYD Atto 2 Pakistan: 100 EVs Delivered in a Single Day

Pakistan’s electric vehicle market hit a significant milestone on March 19, 2026. Mega Motor Company (MMC), the official BYD partner in Pakistan, delivered 100 BYD Atto 2 vehicles to customers in a single nationwide operation — the largest single-day EV delivery in Pakistan’s history.

Ceremonies were held simultaneously in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, with MMC executives handing over keys to customers who had been on waiting lists. The event signals that Pakistani consumer appetite for affordable electric vehicles is far stronger than the industry anticipated.

Why This Milestone Matters

For context: Pakistan’s EV market was virtually non-existent three years ago. In 2023, total annual EV sales across the country were under 1,000 units. Delivering 100 units in a single day — from one brand alone — represents a dramatic shift.

BYD entered Pakistan through MMC in late 2024. The Atto 2 is their entry-level electric SUV, positioned as an affordable option for upper-middle-class Pakistani buyers looking to escape fuel costs. At a time when petrol prices remain high and the rupee has stabilised, the economic argument for EVs is becoming harder to ignore.

BYD Atto 2 — Key Specifications for Pakistani Buyers

  • Battery: 45.1 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery — safer, longer-lasting than older lithium-ion
  • Charging: AC home charging to 80% in approximately 6 hours; DC fast charging available
  • Motor: 70 kW front electric motor, 0–100 km/h in approximately 10 seconds
  • Safety: 5-star Euro NCAP rating, standard ADAS driver assistance features
  • Price in Pakistan: Approximately Rs. 8.5–9.5 million (subject to duty and variant)

What Customers Are Saying

Buyers at the Karachi delivery event cited fuel savings as the primary motivation. Several customers noted that at current electricity tariffs, charging the Atto 2 overnight costs roughly Rs. 800–1,200 — compared to Rs. 4,000–6,000 for a petrol equivalent on the same distance.

MMC representatives confirmed that over 500 additional orders are currently on the waiting list, with delivery timelines of 4–8 weeks depending on variant and location.

Pakistan’s EV Infrastructure Challenge

The biggest concern for potential EV buyers in Pakistan remains charging infrastructure. Unlike China or Europe, Pakistan has very few public fast-charging stations outside major cities. MMC has committed to installing dedicated BYD charging points at their service centres in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad, and Multan.

For the vast majority of Atto 2 buyers, home charging is the practical solution — which requires a stable 220V supply. In cities where load-shedding is now largely controlled, this is feasible. In areas with frequent outages, range anxiety is a legitimate concern.

What Comes Next for BYD in Pakistan?

MMC is expected to launch the BYD Atto 3 — a slightly larger SUV — in Q2 2026, with a starting price around Rs. 11–12 million. BYD’s global push into developing markets makes Pakistan a strategic priority, and the brand has indicated it is evaluating local assembly options that could significantly reduce prices in the coming years.
