Pakistan vs Sri Lanka ODIs Moved After Security Scare in Islamabad

Islamabad, November 12, 2025: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have postponed the 2nd and 3rd ODIs by one day each after a security incident in Islamabad.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka ODIs Rescheduled After Islamabad Security Incident

A suicide blast in the capital raised concerns for both teams. The first ODI in Rawalpindi concluded safely, but the boards decided to revise the schedule as a safety measure.

Under the new plan, the second ODI will take place on November 14, and the third on November 16, both at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Some Sri Lankan players initially wanted to return home. After a detailed security briefing and direct talks with officials, the team agreed to continue the tour.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi thanked Sri Lanka for standing with Pakistan.

“Grateful to the Sri Lankan team for their decision to continue the Pakistan tour. The spirit of sportsmanship and solidarity shines bright.”

Naqvi confirmed that the PCB and local authorities have reinforced all security arrangements. He assured fans that the board is doing everything possible to ensure player safety and match continuity.

The situation reminded many fans of the 2009 Lahore attack, when armed men ambushed the Sri Lankan team bus. That tragedy injured several players and stopped international cricket in Pakistan for years. Since then, the country has rebuilt its security framework and regained the trust of visiting teams.

Cricket fans have praised both boards for handling the situation with care and transparency. The short delay gives officials extra time to review logistics and keep the environment secure.

Pakistan took an early lead in the ODI series after a thrilling win in the first match of the Sri Lanka tour of Pakistan 2025.  The 1st ODI (Day/Night) was played at Rawalpindi on November 11, where Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by 6 runs in a close finish. With the series still open, supporters now look forward to action resuming in Rawalpindi this Friday.
