Jazz, Pakistan’s largest mobile operator and a subsidiary of VEON Group, officially launched 5G services in Pakistan following the receipt of its licence from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority in March 2026. As the market leader with approximately 74 million subscribers, Jazz’s 5G rollout carries enormous significance for digital connectivity across the country.
Jazz CEO on 5G Vision
Jazz CEO Aamir Ibrahim described the 5G spectrum acquisition as reinforcing the company’s digital ambition as it evolves into a full-scale Services Company (ServiceCo). He confirmed that Jazz will progressively introduce 5G where it creates real value while also expanding high-quality 4G connectivity for the masses who are not yet ready to upgrade to 5G devices. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with VEON Group CEO Kaan Terzioglu shortly after the launch, with Terzioglu noting that Pakistan had moved swiftly toward achieving a digital economy through its 5G rollout.
Jazz 5G Coverage: Which Cities Are Live?
Jazz’s 5G services launched initially in Islamabad and provincial capitals, with plans to extend to other major urban areas progressively. Islamabad International Airport is already a confirmed 5G-enabled location. The Pakistan Airports Authority has named it the first airport in the country to offer next-generation connectivity. Commercial and enterprise zones in major cities are receiving priority coverage, with residential rollout expected to follow as tower density increases.
Spectrum Jazz Holds for 5G
Jazz secured spectrum across multiple bands in the 5G auction, including the valuable 700 MHz low-band allocation that provides excellent rural coverage and indoor penetration. Combined with its existing mid-band spectrum, Jazz’s network architecture is designed to deliver both widespread coverage and high-capacity urban connectivity. The elimination of right-of-way fees by the government will further reduce Jazz’s cost of deploying additional towers.
JazzCash and Digital Services Integration
A critical differentiator for Jazz in the 5G era is its ecosystem of digital services. JazzCash, Pakistan’s leading mobile financial service, has over 58 million registered customers. It is one of the largest digital wallet user bases in the country. Jazz’s streaming platform Tamasha reached 25 million monthly active users during the Asia Cup 2025. It has since maintained a sustained base of 17.5 million users. The lifestyle app SIMOSA crossed 24.1 million monthly active users in 2025. These platforms are expected to offer enhanced experiences over Jazz’s 5G network, particularly for high-definition streaming and real-time financial transactions.
What This Means for Jazz Subscribers
Existing Jazz subscribers in 5G-covered areas need only a 5G-compatible handset and a 5G-ready SIM to access faster speeds. Jazz plans to introduce dedicated 5G data bundles in the coming months. Current 4G packages remain valid and unaffected. For users without 5G devices, Jazz will continue to maintain and improve its 4G LTE network as part of its inclusive connectivity strategy.
Jazz’s 5G launch marks a major milestone for Pakistan’s digital future. With the country’s largest subscriber base, a mature digital services ecosystem, and government support, Jazz is well positioned to lead the transition to next-generation connectivity.
