ISLAMABAD – Meta has launched a new AI model that communicates in Urdu. Consequently, this empowers millions of speakers in Pakistan and South Asia. Additionally, it makes advanced technology much more accessible to non-English users.
The official launch occurred during the “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation” summit. Specifically, Pakistan’s IT Ministry hosted this event in partnership with Meta.
A Step Toward Digital Inclusion
As a result, this development will transform how people use technology. For example, users can now search and create content entirely in their native language. Therefore, this fosters a significantly more inclusive digital world.
IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja welcomed the launch. She stated, “This directly enables our people to use technology in their own tongue. Moreover, it ensures no one is left behind in our digital transformation.”
Driving Public Sector Innovation
Similarly, the partnership focuses on modernizing government services. To achieve this, officials released a specialized guide for using Meta’s open-source AI. This will not only help agencies improve efficiency but also enhance public services while protecting national data.
Building a Future-Ready Workforce
Furthermore, this initiative complements a broader national push for AI skills. For instance, the government is already training hundreds of educators. Ultimately, this crucial step prepares students for the future job market.
